Huge growth in eLearning in Asia, market report says

By Blog
Booming enrolment in online higher education, rapid content digitisation, the rollout of national online education networks and teacher shortages in rapidly developing countries have led to huge demand for eLearning products, according to a just-released market research report on eLearning. Globally the market for so-called self-paced eLearning products reached US$42.7 billion last year, and is projected to reach US$53 billion by 2018, according to the research report by United States-based international research company Ambient Insight. While the US leads sales, Asia is the second largest market with revenues from eLearning products in Asia projected to reach US$12.1 billion in 2018, up from US$7.9 billion in 2013. Seven out of the top 10 countries with the highest eLearninggrowth rates in the world are in Asia – Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Nepal and Pakistan – with growth in these countries above 30%, the report said. “Myanmar has the highest growth rate in Asia at a breathtaking 50.2%, followed by Thailand and Malaysia at 43.7% and 42.3%, respectively,” said Sam Adkins, chief research officer at Ambient Insight. Revenues will more than double in a dozen of the 21 Asian countries analysed and triple in nine of them, in part boosted by a...

AFRICA eLearning partnership opens doors to 10 million students

By Blog
A landmark agreement signed between the 380-member Association of African Universities, or AAU, and Africa’s largest online education platform eLearnAfrica will enable 10 million students to access higher education through online services provided to AAU member universities. The agreement signed on 3 February will enable member universities to expand their reach through the provision of online, distance-learning opportunities to students everywhere, including rural areas. It will also support universities in the development and deployment of online learning resources and in the use of the eLearnAfrica Learning Management System. “We're glad to welcome early adapters, like the Zambian Open University, that already offer online degrees. Now, with this agreement with the AAU, we'll be able to support more universities to make the jump to e-learning,” CEO of eLearnAfrica, Brook Negussie told University World News. The eLearnAfrica platform is fully functional on mobile devices, which represents the most popular form of connecting to the internet. Cost-effective strategy According to Negussie, eLearnAfrica is a cost-effective strategy for delivering higher education because of one-time development costs, low continuing costs, and most importantly, the ability to scale delivery. “Before, class size was limited by desks; now, it's limitless,” he said. “I would have to say...

Corporate eLearning: Do You Know Why Pictures Help Us Learn?

By Blog
How do we use eLearning to provide more effective solutions that engage talent and improve performance? Having a corporate eLearning program is one thing. Making it a success is another. Learn how we can abandon traditional learning methods, leverage technology, and empower employees to succeed. Here is how pictures help us learn in corporate training. Why Pictures Help Us Learn In Corporate Training Implementing traditional learning methods into technology is no recipe for success. eLearning offers us many things, but it doesn’t guarantee a learning outcome that will benefit the learner nor the organisation's bottom line. So to help employees learn new skills and retain what they learn we need to rethink our eLearning methods. Visuals and pictures can play a big part in inspiring engagement. A picture of a pipe once helped me to understand conceptual models. Yes, pictures help us learn. But how can we use this knowledge in our corporate learning? Similar questions were asked in a study I did a few months ago called Effectiveness Of eLearning In Statistics: Pictures And Stories published in E-Learning and Digital Media. For business this study holds a lot of relevance, as it shows us how to help our employees learn better...

Online Assessments the Future of Global Learning

By Blog, News
The Australian Government remains committed to ensuring there is a national approach to online assessment, including a move to deliver the National Assessment Program (NAP) online. Online assessment offers significant benefits including the potential to provide a more accurate measurement of student achievement, increased accessibility, and faster results. It can also provide teachers with vital diagnostic information that they can use in the classroom. Some of these benefits are already starting to be realised through ‘Improve’ – an online assessment tool available to all Australian teachers. Work is underway to develop a new national assessment system to support the delivery of NAPLAN online, and potentially state and territory online assessments, as well as innovative classroom assessments. A comprehensive research programme is also being undertaken by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) to investigate student performance and measure impacts of delivering NAPLANonline. Education Services Australia (ESA) and ACARA are working with the Australian Government Department of Education to deliver this programme of work, in consultation with state and territory and non-government education authorities. The poll conducted in June, surveyed 400 learning and development professionals about how they deliver training and their plans for the future. The results show overall stability in the use of classroom training (89 per cent) as well as e-learning (79 per cent) and coaching (69 per cent). However, e-learning is still being used as a standalone resource in the majority of companies. More News Young people urged to check social media profiles to boost employability Jaguar Land Rover launch Academy to support lifelong learning Adults are learning, but need more encouragement Practical maths lessons will teach post-school teenagers 'real-life' skills Martin Addison, CEO of Video Arts said: “Classroom training and online learning still dominate the development agenda but the big change since last year is the growth in demand for ready-made e-learning and video content. “L&D teams are taking a ‘horses for courses’ approach, as they’re also commissioning bespoke content to meet specific needs and some are still creating their own learning resources. But, increasingly, it...

The Many Ways E-Learning will Change in 2016

By Blog, News
As we come to the end of the year, we look forward to what 2016 holds. The past year was productive and innovative, to be sure, but e-learning continues to grow as a viable solution for corporate learning, and neurolearning is progressing as a science and study. A few areas are especially promising for 2016, particularly when attitudes come into play. As forward-thinking and influential companies implement the best learning techniques, a wave of early adopters will take e-learning to the next level. Here are some of the trends that are worth a second look in the coming months. 1. Outsourcing On the Rise According to Docebo’s “E-Learning Market Trends & Forecast 2014-2016 Report,” the big story might not be what happens in the office, but what happens when businesses outsource e-learning to another company or service. Some 42 percent of e-learning spending goes to outsourcing, leaving just 58 percent of e-learning dollars in-house. Going forward that likely speaks to HR’s workload more than training skill level. Businesses are acknowledging that in order to train employees properly — and to retain the best talent — a couple of PowerPoint presentations aren’t going to cut it. Instead, e-learning professionals who understand neuroscience, engagement and...

Crack Down on Rogue Training Brokers

By Blog, News

New standards to combat rogue training brokers and protect prospective students from unscrupulous marketing practices, come into force from today. Assistant Minister for Education and Training, Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham said the Australian Government is taking decisive and coordinated action to stop the exploitation of students. “Stories abound of people being stopped on the street and offered incentives including cash payments to sign-up for a course they don’t need,” Senator Birmingham said. “Often prospective students aren’t given the full story and sign-up to student loans worth thousands of dollars that need to be repaid later.” “The Government is taking firm action to crack down on unscrupulous and misleading behaviour by some training providers and brokers.” “Under the new standards, training providers and their brokers must be upfront with students and provide clear information about any VET-FEE HELP loans, state entitlements and subsidy arrangements that they sign up to.” “The standards also stipulate that training providers are ultimately responsible for services delivered by brokers on their behalf, ensuring that the buck stops with training providers.” “As the new minister I intend to do all possible to ensure training is of the highest quality so that students and potential employers can…
